The Problem

Declining overdraft fee income due to Federal Reserve rules that prohibit charging fees for paying overdrafts unless the customer opts in to the overdraft service for ATM and one-time debit card transactions.

The Solution

Developed a comprehensive solution that identifies customers who have recently had a POS transaction declined due to insufficient funds and are currently eligible for our ODP product but have not opted in to overdraft protection for ATM and POS transactions. The identified customer is then added to a target list that will trigger the display of a message the next time the customer’s profile is accessed.  At this point our staff reminds the customer that this type of coverage is available and encourages them to opt in. The customer’s response is recorded and the necessary maintenance is programmatically performed.  Staff is not required to perform any account maintenance.
